The Nicest Things You say the nicest things that anyone has said to me Here I thought compliments were dead to me You almost have me believing them, You almost have me believing them How am I the one receiving them? You say the nicest things that anyone has said to me I'd run when insults used to head to me You almost have me believing them, You almost have me believing them When I'm down I keep retrieving them Tenderness never would spread to me And now you say the nicest things that anyone has said to me You say the nicest things that anyone has said to me Most times pure nastiness is fed to me You almost have me believing them You almost have me believing them Don't know how you are conceiving them cummings poems never were read to me And now you say the nicest things that anyone has said to me You say the nicest things

Putting It Off She kept putting it off, She kept putting it off She found the risk too great She kept putting it off, She kept putting it off And then it was too late She dilly-ed and she dally-ed, true avoidance was her quest So not a thing of worth was ever addressed She planned to stick it out until the timing was just right Before she knew it time had taken a flight She kept putting it off, She kept putting it off A trait she grew to hate She kept putting it off, She kept putting it off And then it was too late She thought she'd get around to it one day The week would start and soon it was Sunday We'd always hear her claim, "I'm waiting for that sign" We knew that it was only a line She knew how to procrastinate, she did it like a pro Without too much to tell or too much to show She has learned that good things do not come to those who wait And you should never leave your choices to fate She kept putting it off She kept putting it ff

I Never Understood ( Where I Stood With You ) You always held the cards, but you never dealt them If you had feelings once, well, I never felt them If I just knew my place, I would gladly go there Without directions I keep on going nowhere I could never learn if things were good with you "Cause I never understood where I stood with you It's time I take a stand 'cause I just can't stand it I'd ask politely but never could demand it I can't have to the talk that I should with you "Cause I never understood where I stood with you Was I completely out of the picture or just outside the shot? The slightest clue I haven't got I never understood where I stood with you I neve understood where I stood with you

Now Is Not A Great Time All this feeling way down can weigh me down Although there's troubled waters, I can't lay me down Not unlike how it was before But these things seem to bug me more Harder to accept what is now the norm Everyone's behaving in such bad form Where's the comfort to keep us warm? Seems we're in for an endless storm And now is not a great time Now is not a great time It's not that I am implying it ever was When they say it will get better, it never does Feeling so uneasy is not easy What it known as pleasure does not please me All the scoundrels are finding their groove And they are quickly on the move Now is not a great time Now is not a great time It's not that I am implying it ever was When they say that it will get better it never does I didn't think it was too great then, but now in retrospect I'll take it over the times like now, when all our hopes are wrecked Now is not a great time

Far From Eaten Out I wish I led the life you think I lead I stay at home each night and mostly read My weekends end so weak and don't start strong You'd guess they're all booked up and you'd be wrong You say I'm out and all about But I'm inside with a can of stout You think I'm living where it's hip to be The neighborhood I'm in it takes a trip to see Life's now one long defeating bout No drum rolls will be beaten out And your heart will be far from eaten out Your heart will be far from eaten out I hope you never learn of what I do I'd say it's nothing like the life I knew The tears will never fear a drought I'm at the laundry using Shout And your heart will be far from eaten out Your heart will be far from eaten out

My Persistence Vs Your Resistance Seldom is there heard an encouraging word You will set me straight so nothing is obscured You won't even give an inch And I have never seen you flinch Some can only want what they cannot get I once said, "Not me", and now it's time to fret You won't even give an inch And here I thought it was a cinch But it's my persistence vs your resistance The ongoing battle of my persistence and your resistance You are not the type to be giving in Can't you see the hell that I'm living in You won't even give an inch You won't be there in a pinch It's my persistence vs your resistance The ongoing battle of my persistence and your resistance Why do I keep hanging on for a yes? You must have a doctorate in the art of stubbornness My persistence vs your resistance.

She Doesn't Do Nostalgia She doesn't do nostalgia anymore She doesn't do nostalgia, it's a bore If you're part of her past, you're no more a part of her You will not return to the very heart of her She'll no longer be going or looking back She says, "Nothing's worse than some sad oldies act" Don't even try asking her to remember when You won't be able to ask her again Her good old days are way too old and are no good now If you didn't know that before you should now She has never saved any old photographs Don't remind her of her lesser "better halfs" She doesn't do nostalgia anymore She doesn't do nostalgia, that's for sure She doesn't do nostalgia anymore She doesn't do nostalgia, she'll implore She won't attend a class reunion at anytime She feels that catching up should be a crime The present is the top layer of the past, she knows She read that in Nabokov I suppose She doesn't do nostalgia

You Let Her Break Your Heart Again You let her break your heart again You let her break your heart again I'm sure that you had a feeling It can't be that surprising how once more came to an end I guess it looked quite appealing You didn't think it through but denial is a romantic's best friend You let her break your heart again You let her break your heart again You looked so thrilled when she came back And I would see you walking with her arm inside of your arm You ended up on the same track So maybe now you've learned that the second time is never the charm You let her break your heart again You let her break your heart again Do you wish you had the chance to break hers first? But you willingly ran right back so you can't say you're cursed The sequel is never better Especially when it will end exactly as it did in part one The script should go in the shredder And most will say it's best to never even start one We hoped you'd not start again But you let her break your heart again You let her break your heart again

You And Your Excuses You will always find a way to say "NO" to anything We keep waiting for your call but you never ring Quickly you'll agree to things that we're sure you're bound to scrape Once we think you are locked in you will still escape It's you, you.you You and your excuses You put them to advantageous uses It leaves us shaken, never stirred The way you never keep your word What a great ability for no accountability You worm your way right out with such great agility It's you, you, you You and your excuses You put them to advantageous uses All these outlandish things we've heard And still you never keep your word You're never wrong, you're never sorry You're never wrong, you're never sorry You're never wrong, you're never sorry You're never wrong You, You, You You and your excuses

He Doesn't Know If He Snores He has a cozy bed, but when he sleeps it's on the couch His posture was so good and now he tends to slouch He once walked in and out of many open doors But rarely got a chance to walk across the floors He's had his share of calls, but none of them were very close If there's a remedy, he's ready for his dose Tuesdays and Fridays Isabella tends the bar He loves when he walks in and she says, "There you are!!" But he doesn't know if he snores He's fallen very hard for quite a few who never fell If he even had a chance, he could never tell He's still obsessing over all of his befores The voice inside his head reminds him,"Nothing's yours" And he doesn't know if he snores He doesn't know if he snore If he had to guess it would be "YES"

Is It Over Already? What you hope will last is what will not last It's near impossible not to hang onto the past They keep taking off before it took off It will restore the pain the can never be shook off Is it over already? Is it over already? I thought there was so much more time to spend And people wonder why certain hearts can never mend Is it over already? Is it over already? Could it be just an intermission? Wish I had some intuition Halfway through? Or adieu? Is it over already? is it over already?

about

The timeworn tale has always been about “the difficult second album”, but The John Sally Ride’s sophomore release, Nothing Doing, did not suffer from any hitches or unexpected turmoil. It seems like the difficulties decided to wait it out until their third, brand new album, Now Is Not A Great Time.

The band went in the studio hot on the heels of the success of Nothing Doing to record the follow up. Growing from a trio to a quartet by adding guitarist extraordinaire Joe Pampel, the band were keyed-up to get the new, richer sound into the ears of listeners lickety-split. A John Sally Ride Mark Two if you will? Things were moving along at a quick and steady pace and things were sounding phenomenal. They released two singles, Far From Eaten Out and Putting It Off, as they were finishing the rest of the album. When they were about halfway through, the world pulled the emergency brake. Like most everything in existence, the studio and the band were shutdown, locked down, let down and put down. The band’s first album is titled A New Set Of Downs, but these weren’t the new set of downs they were looking for.

The members of The John Sally Ride did not sit around idly while waiting to get back to work. Bassist Sal Maida released his second book, The White Label Promo Preservation Society on Hozac Books ( featuring pieces written by members of the band), new guitarist Joe Pampel had a song on a Jeff Tweedy tribute album, drummer Sal Nunziato expanded the readership of his beloved music blog Burning Wood and John Dunbar released a solo album, Oh Wellness, on Kool Kat Records.

Once the guys were all vaccinated and Soundtronics studio reopened, they reconvened and got to work completing what they started. Songs considered pre-pandeminc were tossed aside for new ones. The band sounds reenergized and inspired like never before. The addition of Joe Pampel has propelled the band to new heights. Sal Maida, already a highly regarded, legendary bass player, plays some of the best bass lines of his illustrious career. Listen to the end of I Never Understood ( Where I Stood With You) and keep your hand below your jaw to save it from dropping too far. Drummer and background vocalist Sal Nunziato continues to show how you can be a noticeable drummer without stepping all over the song, while adding sweet harmony vocals to the festivities. Songwriter John Dunbar offers his usual curious view of the world while trying to keep the hooks hooked up.

It took some time to get here, but now is the right time for Now Is Not A Great Time.

about

The John Sally Ride New York, New York

Each time John Dunbar put out a new solo album he first played it for his close friend, and fave drummer, Sal Nunziato, He always hoped Sal would ask to play on the next record. Each time Sal heard a new Dunbar record, he wondered why he was never asked to play on it. They both always dreamed of playing with mutual friend, Sal Maida. After the unspoken was spoken, The John Sally Ride was formed. ... more
